What started as a dark, dated 1987 space has now been transformed into a bright, functional contemporary kitchen, with enhanced living, dining, laundry, and mud room areas. “We ended up addressing some item of every room touching the kitchen and couldn’t be happier”, Phil and Wanda happily share. The new spaces are so much brighter and it’s a very forgiving design with a warm aesthetic.
“Everything about our kitchen is so much more usable”, declares the homeowner. As a cake decorator, she was used to storing her supplies in another area of the home. Now, she has storage for it right in the kitchen. There are special cabinets for cookie sheets, drawers dedicated to pots and pans, and overall storage that never existed before.
The new island has been repositioned to a different place in the kitchen and is much larger than the original. This makes it so much easier for the couple to enjoy their home and cooking together. She says, “he loves to help in the kitchen and we cook way more together now than we used to”. The under cabinet lighting and ‘statement’ island were the solution to the desire for more light. Luxury vinyl flooring brings an element of, well, luxury to the kitchen. It’s very easy to clean and looks good all the time.
This is a project the couple saved and waited for. When they went for it, they trusted a good friend of theirs who had nothing but wonderful things to say about Beyond Kitchens. “They are absolutely wonderful and gave us options we never would have thought about”, says Wanda.
OUR FAVORITE MOMENT: When the final plans were complete and the clients met with us for their color appointment. The joy we saw on their faces told us we had shown them their dream kitchen.
The original kitchen was dark and outdated. The flooring on the main floor consisted of a variety of floor coverings that originally designated the activity of the room.
The main floor of the house actually had an “open space plan” that had been hidden by the original finishes. New kitchen cabinets created a focal point that emphasized the height of the vaulted ceilings.
The island has a stained finish and the perimeter cabinets have two tones of grey paint, which creates a lot of interest.
The luxury vinyl flooring throughout the main floor unifies the area and gives the illusion of a much larger space.
